food security. However, from time to time agricultural field is getting eroded due to land use conversion. Magelang City Government through Magelang City Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2012 concerning the Spatial Plan for the City of
Magelang (RTRW) 2011-2031 stipulates the area designated for irrigated agriculture as Regional Sustainable Food Agriculture Land (LP2B) covering an area of 120 ha. Determination of LP2B must be in accordance with the potential land owned. So, it is necessary to conduct a study on the potential of LP2B in Magelang City and its conformity with RTRW. The method used in this research is qualitative with a spatial approach with an overlay technique on the maps of the determinants of LP2B potential with the use of rice field to produce a Potential Map of LP2B in Magelang City. The map is then overlaid again with the Map of the 2011-2031 Spatial Pattern Plan for Magelang City to determine its suitability with the RTRW.
The results of the analysis show that all of the rice fields covering an area of 215,817 ha in Magelang City are divided into: 113,696 ha (52.68%) very potential (K1); 89,988 ha (41,7%) potential (K2); and 12,133 ha (5.62%) less potential (K3). The conformity of the potential for LP2B to RTRW are: 1) Rice fields that are in accordance with LP2B and Agricultural Areas: K1 covering an area of 81,117 ha; K2 covering an area of 51,017 ha and K3 covering an area of 4.88 ha. 2) Unsuitable rice fields: K1 covering an area of 32,578 ha; K2 covering an area of 38,971 ha and K3 covering an area of 7,246 ha. This shows that there is a potential loss of potential LP2B rice fields (rice fields K1 and K2) covering an area of 71,549 ha.
